WORSHIP

Where there is no gathering there is no church.

The cliche “the church has left the building” is a misnomer. What we do outside and away is not greater than what we do together. In fact, what we do in the streets should be the natural overflow of what we do in the seats. God’s people gathering together for corporate worship is unique above all else and without it, there is no church. Throughout history, even in times of danger and persecution, God’s people have obeyed the admonition of the author of Hebrews to not forsake the assembling.

The music of Christian worship has never been defined by style or form but by content and heart.

There is no bad music, only bad words. The words of worship must be biblical. There are no bad voices. Not every voice is professional but the voice of every believer is confessional. The lyrics of our songs must confess the truth of our faith. True content coupled with passionate hearts is our goal-not entertainment. We gather together to sing our faith and rejoice in the righteous claims of Jesus Christ our Savior.

Giving is worship, not obligation. Tithing is not a command but a promise.

Even in the age of online giving, we cannot afford to forget that tithing and giving are to be acts of delight, not duty. Even before the law Abram gave tithes in worship to Mechizadeck. After the law, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught us about the reward of giving if, as with fasting and prayer, we give in worshipful humility.

What is Mount Zion’s Most Important Job?

Jesus taught many wonderful things while here on the earth. However, after His resurrection and before His ascension Jesus spoke of one thing … taking the gospel of Jesus to the whole world. He commanded every believer to “preach the gospel” to every creature. He sent the Holy Spirit to empower us to take the good news to our Jerusalem (locale), Judea (state), Samaria (nation), and the whole earth. Mount Zion Baptist is committed to doing this to the best of our ability with the resources He gives us. We cannot do what a megachurch can do but Mount Zion will do what we can do to the fullest extent we are able. Therefore, we will do it with joy, zeal, hope, and sacrifice, because of our love for Jesus. He loves us, and we are loving Him back.

Why does Mount Zion Baptist exist?

We exist for this purpose: to possess and communicate an unquenchable passion for the supremacy of the Lord Jesus Christ in all things.
